ok, its bullshit how no ones talking about what just happened to Naomi Wu. A Chinese lesbian whos openly dating a Uyghur woman suddenly faces police harassment and is being actively silenced by the CCP and no western media site says a word?

if youre queer or fuck it if you care about queer people and what we face every day under the ccp you should spread this. the world should know whats happening to Noami Wu.

It's so wild how many grown adults can't grasp such a basic concept like "if you are nicer to strangers they will usually be nicer to you in return"

I work a job where I interact with the public. If my customers are nice and pleasant I will bend over backwards for them. If my customers are unpleasant I will do the absolute minimum as required to not get in trouble. I'll never not do my job, but by god I can and will do the bare minimum.

I worked five years in a university student computer lab back in the 90s, and I definitely did exactly this. It came to a weird climax when two customers literally had an argument about me in front of me like “oh god i hate her… she’s an asshole.” “What are you talking about? She’s an absolute sweetheart!” And I just kind of had to sit there in silence lol

a customer the other day started yelling at my coworker bc neither of us had a key to unlock the 2000 dollar jacket from the rack, and she suggested that the woman could try it on, with the chain, while i went to find one. i have worked with this girl for a few months, and i have seen her run all over the store if someone asked for something. she looked at the woman and said "if you can't respect me, then i wont be able to help you". this woman started screaming to high heaven about going to corporate and complaining, as if everyone who's met my coworker before, and especially all the managers, dont know there was obviously something else going on.

i see a post talking doom and gloom about how we'll never escape toxic masculinity. i think about back in 2017 when american girl released their first boy doll, and a review for him went viral in the collecting community. the review was written by a mom, who said they went into the store to get their daughter a doll, only to see their son's eyes light up like fire when he saw a doll that looked like him, and now every night he puts his doll in pajamas and rocks him to sleep. i think about the toddler in my daycare room a few years back who was obsessed with baby dolls, carrying them everywhere, and his mom proudly told us he uses his sisters' old baby dolls and wants to be just like them. that toddler saw another toddler crying one day and gave her the doll he had to cheer her up. i think about the eight-year-old boy i saw a few years back, excitedly waving around raya's sword in a target checkout line like all his dreams were coming true. there was a video on my instagram the other day of a little boy at disneyworld crying with joy upon meeting his hero, mulan. i think about the voice actor for bow in the she-ra reboot saying his nephews only wanted adora action figures. celebrity men are wearing dresses on tv now. last halloween i saw a little boy dressed as elsa. i went to go see spiderverse over the summer, and in the line ahead of me was a boy who couldn't be older than twelve or thirteen, bouncing and beaming, giddy with excitement over getting to see the female-led romance movie elemental. i think about the five-year-old boy at my library who breathlessly asked me where the pinkalicious books were, eyes widening when i had more on my cart, his mom explaining that he is all about pinkalicious and fancy nancy. i saw so many pictures online of boys and men dressed in pink to see barbie. teenage boys are gonna open their phones and see the man who wrote fucking game of thrones dressed in pink to see barbie. when i was a kid, a boy dressing in pink was practically a social death sentence. there are boys running around in pink on my street right now.

Boys are taught to like/not like things. And it's so subtle/pervasive in our culture that parents might not even realize they are doing it if they aren't consciously trying to not do it. I can't tell you how many times my nephew has expressed interest in something and my sister responded, either casually or regretfully, with, 'It's for girls.' Like as an FYI, not as a refusal, just thinking he wouldn't want it if he realized. And I've had to follow the comment up with, 'But that's just fine. Stuff made for girls is cool and you can like it if you want,' or 'That doesn't mean you can't wear it if you really want to. There aren't any rules against it. Do what you want, Bubba.' And more often than not, he really wants the 'girl' thing, and seems relieved I've essentially given him permission after his mother inadvertantly insinuated he wasn't allowed. The last thing was a necklace that wasn't even particularly feminine except that it was a little more delicate than most men's jewelry. The design did not scream GIRL. It was a geometric cool but dainty thing. He wears it to school now. You may think you're a progressive parent, and you may truly not care about gender roles, but their influence in our culture is insidious, and you have to actively monitor your language when speaking to your kids to avoid inadvertently passing along the reinforcement of them.

Ah yes, 1998, I remember the wholesome, healthful treats from my childhood as clear as day...

My favorite were the mystery ones, where you literally couldn’t see what the hell you were putting in your body.

For a brief moment we had a third dimension of flavor.

The flavors may be natural but the effect this drink had on my prepubescent body was anything but.

The way the wrapping imbued the outer -- frosting? glaze? crust? lacquer? -- with the subtle aroma of plastic.

What’s that floating in there, you ask? It’s definitely edible. Don’t worry about it.

Purple ketchup. It’s just like nature intended the tomato to be, if nature had been more awesome.
